Recommendations for cleaning terminals and payment devices

To limit the spread of COVID-19 a regular disinfection of surfaces, especially keyboards is recommended. Cleaning and disinfection of PIN pads and terminals is simple and can be done on your own, following a few simple rules as listed below.

What can be used to clean and disinfect my terminal or device?

  • To clean the device it is recommended to use soapy water or water with dishwashing liquid.
  • For disinfection, it is recommended to use alcohol based cleaning agents or alcohol based solutions of 70% or above.  Additionally,  anti-bacterial  wipes may be used.
  • The use of thinners, trichloroethylene or ketone-based solvents is NOT recommended as they can seriously damage plastic or rubber parts and compromise the device.

Before cleaning, we recommend:

  • Wearing disposable protective gloves.
  • Switching off the terminal and disconnecting it from the power supply.
  • For mobile terminals, turning off the device.

How to clean and disinfect?

  • Cleaning agent - apply liquid on a piece of clean fabric, e.g. soft cotton or flannel.
  • Squeeze the excess liquid. For effective cleaning and disinfection a slightly moistened piece of fabric is sufficient as excess liquid could penetrate into the housing and damage the device.
  • After cleaning, add disinfectant to another cloth and use it to wipe gently all surfaces.
  • Please do not spray cleaning agents, foams or other solutions directly on the keyboard or display as this may damage the device.
